Invite me to your local convention!

Cosplay is the craft of wearing your nerdy heart on your sleeve, and is a form of costuming inspired by pop culture, including both accurate replications and creative reimaginings. The inspirations for costumes may be living actors, animated characters, fictional inhumans, or even inanimate objects, ranging from Disney princesses, to live-action superheroes, to Gremlins, and Transformers, just to name a few. The variety in cosplay is further enhanced by:

  • Crossplay: cosplaying as another sex or gender than your own;
  • Gender Creativity: (aka Gender Bending, or Rule 63) changing the gender or sex of your cosplay to match your own – e.g., a female Bilbo Baggins;
  • Gijinka: humanoid versions of inhuman creatures, synthetics, or inanimate objects – e.g., a humanoid version of Disney’s Wall-E;
  • Mashups: combining two or more genres, themes, series, characters, or artistic styles into one costume – e.g., steampunk Superman;
  • … and more! Cosplay is as unique and varied as the individuals who do it.

In recent years, the pop culture boom and rapid growth of conventions have contributed to a social awareness of cosplay, elevating it’s recognition as an artform, improving the variety and availability of resources and supplies, fostering a flourishing community, and skyrocketing cosplayers to celebrity status. Cosplayers are now being recognised for their work on a global scale, and working professionally with the brands they themselves love.

My Cosplay Life

My origins as a cosplayer began with visits to the Starlight Room at children’s hospitals. When I made my first costume in 1999, deviantArt didn’t exist yet, and Elfwood.Lysator was my online outreach for finding other creative nerdlings like myself. I didn’t know what cosplay was at the time, or that it even existed, but continued to actively “costume for a cause” and to date I’ve assembled over 150 costumes.

While I’m best known internationally as “That Lola Bunny”, locally I’m known for my Causeplay efforts, supporting charitable causes close to my heart through themed events, awareness drives, fund-raising with my cosplay print sales, “cosplay care packages”, and other projects. In 2008 I was a founding member of The Costume Society (CosSoc), and later became the Vice President. I gave my first panel at SMASH 2011 with Echoing Artemis, and I received my first invitations to be a Cosplay Guest and Ambassador for conventions in the USA in 2013 while working for Disney. In the two years that followed I had the honour of being a guest and/or judge at further 15 events spanning four continents, including working with brands such as the Disney Channel, FOX Studios, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, Massive, Ubisoft, Blizzard, Riot Games, Marvel Comics, Village Roadshow, and more.

Thesedays I have the privilege of travelling around the world to represent the craft of cosplay and the cosplay community, spreading a little “cositivity”, and teaming up with my 500,000 social media followers to help bring a little bit of fairytale magic to every day life.

Coming To A Con Near You

I’m still blown away by how my cosplay life has grown, and I’m often asked “when are coming to a convention where I live?”

Hopefully soon! I’d love to attend every convention you ask me to be at, but your best bet is to contact the convention organisers, letting them know that you and your friends want to see me at their event. If enough people ask, maybe they’ll invite me.

I look forward to meeting you all at a convention near you!

See me at your local convention
